Well, we have come to the end of our first week of the 12-week You Speak Portsmouth programme! It has been a brilliant first week to kick it all off. The students have been engaging, enthusiastic, inquisitive, keen to learn and passionate about trying new things. They are eager to discuss new topics and themes with their peers and all have learnt new things in the process, new perspectives, opinions and experiences. All have learnt, even our Unloc facilitators!
The students have already started demonstrating the key skills they are learning. You Speak engages students in public speaking, sharing their voice, getting their point across, understanding others’ perspectives, speaking clearly and speaking with conviction, as well as many other soft skills. In each session, students engage in a group debate where they put the skills they are learning into practice. The students have really enjoyed this opportunity and are demonstrating critical thinking, problem solving and social skills!
It would not have been possible for Unloc to reach so many students with the You Speak programme without the help of our sponsors, Portsmouth University, Blake Morgan, Portsmouth City Council and Shaping Portsmouth. We are so grateful for these partners who have seen the potential of Portsmouth young people and have supported them in becoming the change makers of today! We thank you so much and we thank the schools and students of Portsmouth for partnering with us and helping to make Portsmouth great, together!
